Mercedes Benz Competitor Conquest Program – Save up to $4,000 on New Mercedes Vehicles! Open to Just about Every Competing Make During March 2012!

Mercedes Benz E350 Convertible

The very successful Mercedes Benz Competitor Conquest Program has been expanded for the month of March 2012! This has been a great program, in place for the better part of a year now, offering rebates and cash incentives to customers interested in purchasing select, new Mercedes-Benz models, simply for owning a particular competing luxury brand vehicle. There is no need to trade in the competing make vehicle.. you just have to prove ownership by presenting a title, registration card or proof of insurance to get the discount.

When the program started back in 2011 qualifying vehicles included the makes that we generally think of as direct competitors to Mercedes-Benz, like BMW, Audi, Lexus, Cadillac, Jaguar / Land Rover and a couple of others. A few months later makes like Lincoln and Volvo were added, then Volkswagen and Jeep. The program has proven quite popular, as general ‘manufacturer’s rebates’ don’t really exist in the Mercedes-Benz world. This program has always been an easy way to get $1,000, $2,000, even up to $4,000 off a new Mercedes-Benz depending upon the model you wanted to buy.

This month, March 2012, the Competitor Conquest Program has been opened up to just about every manufacturer you can think of…. Acura, Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu (do they even still make Isuzus?), Jaguar, Jeep, KIA, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lincoln, Lotus, Maserati, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Range Rover and on and on. If you’ve got a car that isn’t a Fiat, Citroen or Peugeot, you’ll probably be eligible for the rebates below.

Mercedes Competitor Conquest Program

New E class deals are especially attractive this month based on the $3,000 Conquest cash available. I haven’t seen a big rebate like that, well, ever, for new E class cars, and it will apply to an E sedan, coupe or cab… even the wagons qualify.

The Competitor Conquest Program cannot be used in conjunction with most other sales programs, it’s an either or sort of incentive. It cannot be used in conjunction with fleet transactions, European Delivery deals, the Mercedes-Benz Club discount, etc. etc. This program does not apply to Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG coupes or roadsters or Sprinter vehicles.

Rare Bird to Appear at the Gooding Scottsdale Auction – 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL Alloy Body, One of Just 29 Ever Built

Gooding and Co Mercedes

The collector car market these days is red hot… at the top anyway. Blue Chip collectibles, cars like Ferrari 250GTs of just about any type are pulling big money, the best, well documented, no stories Shelby Cobras are on fire, Aston Martin DBs of any number are going through the roof and Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwings and roadsters have seen price increases over the last few years that would make any Wall Street investor wish all their investments paid such returns. The ’55 300SL alloy bodied car that’s pictured here is being offered at Gooding and Company’s Scottsdale, AZ auction in January of 2012… it is, arguably, one of the most sought after 300SLs and it’s poised to pull big dollars at the sale.

gooding mercedes gullwing
Iconic by any measure.
Mercedes 300SL Alloy Auction
This blue plaid cloth interior was typical for the mid 1950s.

Mercedes-Benz made just 29 alloy bodied 300SLs (alloy bodied refers to the aluminum coachwork as opposed to steel) for special clients who, theoretically, planned to race their cars. Not only were the bodies lighter, but they were equipped with tuned suspension and a more highly tuned engine making them perfectly suited to the gentleman racer back in the days  when you could drive such a car to a race track, use some masking tape to cover the headlamps and put numbers on the side of the car, race the car and then drive it home afterwards.

The 29 alloy bodied Gullwings are well documented, they have been tracked for years, be serial number, by die hard enthusiasts and marque specialists around the world. A complete list of these cars and where they reside (and with whom) is printed in SL specialist and publisher of ‘The SL Market Letter” John Olson’s book “The SL Experience” available on his SL Marter website or at Amazon.com. This book is the definitive guide to Mercedes-Benz SLs by year starting with the 300SLs from the 1950s all the way into the early 2000s with the last of the R129 chassis cars.

This 1955 300SL alloy bodied car that will be auctioned at the Gooding and Co. auction in January is certainly one of the rarest of the breed. The auction estimate for this car is $2.5 to $3.5 million. Seeing how one of these hasn’t come up for auction in the past five years, and who knows when the next one will become available, it wouldn’t surprise me if this car sells handily in that range next month in Arizona. I suppose it wouldn’t surprise me if it went beyond that estimate, but it would certainly be all the money, as this estimate is easily twice the price of a perfect 300SL to this point… but hey, Where are you going to find another? If the right two bidders want this car bad enough, who knows how far up the price will go?

A Nice Pair! 1987 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth and 1993 Mercedes 500E Just Traded In at Sears Imports

Mercedes 500E 190E 2.3-16

This past Saturday a customer, and long time Mercedes Benz Club member, came in to Sears Imports and traded in these two cars on a Mercedes-Benz S class. These are two of the more rare modern Mercedes-Benz models and both are in excellent condition. I looked them over closely and drove both cars today. They both run and drive very well, I took a bunch of photos of each car in preparation for eBay auctions later in the week. These two cars need to be presented to a national audience. I took the photos here as these cars were traded in. They have not been cleaned, washed, nothing, just parked behind the dealership after being traded in on Saturday afternoon.

Let’s look at each car individually…

1987 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16
Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth

This is a very rare car, originally built to compete directly with the first BMW M3s of the 1980s. The 2.3 liter, 16 valve engine (2.3-16) was developed by Cosworth engineering for Mercedes-Benz. These cars were only offered in two different colors, Pearl Black and Smoke Silver, this car is the Pearl Black color. It is fitted with the original Recaro Sport seats. The car does appear to have been repainted in its original color at one point after my close inspection. It currently shows 187,064 miles.

Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth

This car has clearly been well cared for, but also driven. The suspension has been lowered making it an extremely good handling car. It drives straight and true, it accelerates and stops easily. The 5 speed manual transmission has the race layout you see in some high performance cars… 1st gear is down and to the left, leaving a simple “H” pattern for the other 4 gears. Call me for more info, or if you’d like to set up an appointment to come and see it.

1993 Mercedes Benz 500 E

Only 1,596 500 E models were built in 1993, they boasted 322 Horsepower and a top speed of 161 mph. This was the ultimate ‘Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’ according to the motoring press of the period.  The 500 E was created in close cooperation with Porsche. Each 500 E was hand built by Porsche, being transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche’s Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany during assembly. Each example of the 500 E took a full 18 days to complete.

This particular example is silver with a black interior, both of which are in original and very clean condition. This car runs and drives perfectly, the transmission shifts smoothly, no clunking of any kind. The suspension is tight yet comfortable. Acceleration is brisk. It’s a great driving car, as nice today, with 118,169 original miles as it was when new. Huge fender flares all the way around, AMG wheels and a Lorinser spoiler, anyone in the know will understand what you’ve got when you pull up in this ‘Young Classic’ Mercedes Benz muscle car.

Special 1.9% APR Financing on Certified Pre Owned Mercedes Benz C Class Vehicles Just Announced!

New Mercedes-Benz Sales Programs have just been announced for the month of March 2011. One of the most exciting developments comes from Mercedes-Benz Financial, and it’s an offer of 1.9% APR financing for up to 66 months on all 2007, 2008 and 2009 Certified Pre Owned C class vehicles for the month of March!

We saw a similar program on the E class last March, a 1.9% Special Finance offer, this month it is available on Certified Pre Owned C class vehicles from ’07, ’08 and ’09.

Let’s look at it this way… imagine you choose one of our Certified Pre Owned C300 4matic vehicles to purchase. Let’s use a finance amount of $26,000, you pay the tax, title, license, etc. up front… a smarter thing to do than rolling that into a loan anyway.

Loan Amount: $26,000
Loan Term: 66 months
Regular used car rate: 5.9% APR (decent, not a great rate, but not a horrble rate)
Payment: about $462

Now look at it with the Special APR interest rate from Mercedes-Benz Financial during March 2011

Loan Amount: $26,000
Loan Term: 66 months
Special MBF Rate: 1.9% APR
Payment: about $415

It’s a good way to save yourself almost $50 per month! Feldmann Imports has a good inventory of qualifying C classes, and we are working hard to get more of them this month… don’t miss out on this great offer!

First Car in the World Available with Full LED Headlamps – 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS550

Mercedes-Benz pioneers another first in the automotive world, the first car available with full LED headlamps. The newly redesigned CLS550 sedan that will be released to dealer inventories in mid 2011 as a 2012 model will be available with full LED headlamps. The LED headlamps will be part of the Premium 1 Package (P1), Bi-Xenon headlamps will be standard equipment on the new CLS.

During the past couple of years we’ve seen small strips or ‘brows’ of LED lights appearing as turn signals, running lights and fog lights (as on Audi vehicles, many BMW models and Mercedes-Benz cars), but no one has come up with a full LED system that gives you brighter lights to see by at night, but they also make better use of the vehicle’s energy and power more efficiently.

There are many other changes to the new CLS, completely new body, not just a mild massaging, a new engine… and… brace yourself… 4matic models will be introduced during the summer of 2011! More details to come… check back here soon for more.

German Car Fest 2010! Saturday, June 12 in Shakopee, MN

RAIN or SHINE! Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Shakopee’s Veteran’s Memorial Park from 9:00am until 2:00pm. All German cars are welcome!

This is a very casual show. You DO NOT need a fancy show car to participate. While the Twin Cities Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club puts on the event, any German car is welcome at the show. Nobody gets hung up on washing and polishing their cars or wiping them down with diapers… it’s a casual, fun event. No ego or pretensiousness, please!

If you’d like to participate in the car show it’s $15 at the gate. There is a general parking area if you’d rather just park and walk over to the show. I’d encourage you to give the club $15 and show your german car if you go, it helps offset the park rental and all of the organizational costs.

2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Achieves Top Safety Status from IIHS

It's always been safe, but never THIS safe!

I found this article on a site about Mercedes-Benz vehicles that I visit regularly, emercedesbenz.com, I thought it might be of interest to daveknowscars.com readers. I’m not always big on awards, whether the award is actually worth anything, good marks for safety are always good.

The Mercedes E-Class has been given a top safety award for the first time from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

17 May 2010 | JDavis

Adding to its already high appeal, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has achieved top safety status.  The Mercedes E-Class has been given a top safety award for the first time from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). A score of “good” must be earned in each of the following: front, side, rollover and rear crash protection tests in order for the Top Safety Picks accolade to be gained.  The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, with its many safety features, set the standard in each category.

The IIHS particularly praised the decision of Mercedes-Benz to implement greater padding to the front and rear doors to improve protection in side-impact crashes. Because the safety of drivers, passengers and other drivers are the biggest concern of Mercedes-Benz, the E-Class Saloon has been fitted with a host of features to help make driving safer.

These include innovations that take appropriate action in the event of danger occurring, help to limit damage if an accident happens and ensure that things are made easier in aiding people after an incident has taken place. Among the features utilised are Attention Assist to warn motorists if they are at risk of falling asleep behind the wheel flashing adaptive brake lights to warn fellow motorists travelling behind that there may be a danger ahead.

“The E class was redesigned for the 2010 model year. This is the first time the E class has earned the Institute’s top safety designation. Earlier this year design changes were made to the padding in the front and rear doors to improve protection in side impact crashes. The TOP SAFETY PICK award applies to E class models built after March 2010.” http://www.iihs.org
