Videos from the 2015 Intermarque Spring Kick Off Car Show in Osseo, MN

The Intermarque Car Show, held for the past few years in Osseo, MN… and a show that’s been going on for more than 20 years at some venue around the Twin Cities, is, HANDS DOWN, one of my favorites of the year. This year the big day was Saturday, May 16th.

I tried something new this year… in an effort to share some of the fun cars that show up to the event with friends around the country, and the world, that probably won’t ever make it to the show, I brought a friend a long with a video camera. We talked to some folks who were happy to share the stories of their cars. These are just some of the videos, uploaded to the DaveKnowsCars YouTube Channel, we shot that day, some are still being edited, so check the YouTube channel again soon for more. The great thing about this show is that it’s so laid back and the collection of cars is about as eclectic as yo can imagine. This year there were two Volvo 544s parked next to each other, a Citroen Mehari, a Suffolk Jaguar SS100, more MGs than you could shake a stick at (including a couple of pre-War models). All the clubs come out and park together and mingle… it’s what the collector car hobby is all about. You bring what you’ve got and nobody cares whether your car costs a million dollars or fifteen hundred dollars.

Intermarque is a multi-marque organization that incorporates all the different vintage, foreign car clubs in the area in an effort to consolidate event information and car activites… so everyone knows what’s happening inside our little collector car world. Brian Cornell and Andy Lindberg spend a lot of time each month putting together a great online newsletter ‘The Intermarque Monthly” available for free download at Intermarque.org.

A big thank you needs to go out to Brian Cornell, John Engstrom and all the Intermarque Volunteers that made this show happen, it’s truly a gem of a show and we’re lucky to have such a rabid group of enthusiasts that make it happen, year after year.

Local Twin Cities Mercedes-Benz Club Member’s Vintage 1971 280SL Featured in Brooks Brothers TV Advertisement

I got a call from my buddy Bruce Kelly over at Lake Country Classics a couple of weeks ago about an advertising agency here in Minneapolis that needed a vintage Mercedes-Benz roadster for a TV commercial. Bruce just seems to be the guy that people call for this sort of thing no matter what kind of car is needed, people just know to call him. He called me to see if I could get a hold of a friend we have in common, and fellow Twin Cities Mercedes Benz Club member, Mark Flaten. The ad agency was looking for a vintage Mercedes roadster, and ideally, one in a light color, to use in a Brooks Brothers TV spot. Bruce and I both thought of Mark’s car… an absolutely pristine 1971 280SL roadster in the classic Mercedes color combination of silver over red leather.

Bruce’s shop, Lake Country Classics, finished a complete restoration of Mark’s car last year. It is one of the most pristine and correct cars of this type and vintage I’ve ever seen. I got Mark on the phone, told him that this ad agency was doing a Brooks Brothers ad and they were looking for a car like his the next day… and that if he was interested he should give Bruce a call ASAP. He did, and…

About a week later, Mark forwarded me this link to the finished ad on YouTube. They did indeed use his car for several hours the day after we spoke on the phone. He was well paid for the three hours the agency used his car, he was on set the entire time with the car. In the end it’s a couple of seconds on film, but it’s a fun story and will certainly ad to the interesting history of the car. Click this link to view the video on YouTube.

1977 450SEL 6.9 Liter For Sale on eBay! Another Classic Mercedes from Local Mercedes Benz Club Member

This 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 liter just went up on eBay last night along with the 6.3 I mentioned in the earlier post (see the eBay auction for this vehicle currently underway by clicking this link)┬áThis is the finest example of a 6.9 liter Mercedes sedan that I’ve ever seen. It’s got just over 53,000 original┬ámiles on the odometer, the inside is as pristine as you will find, it literally looks like it rolled off the show room floor yesterday.

Silver with blue interior, it’s equipped with all the luxury S class options you could get in 1977. It runs perfectly and has more power than you’d know what to do with, perhaps the ultimate 20th century autobahn cruiser…. I mean, a 6.9 liter V8… really?

90+ photos and full documented history included in the eBay auction. If you’re looking for a collector quality 6.9, you won’t find a nicer one than this.
