I walked into the service area this morning and came upon this wicked machine. It’s a 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series. This was a very limited production CLK, available as a coupe only. The CLK63 AMG Black series has the 6.2 liter, hand built AMG engine that cranks out 507 Horsepower, but it’s the suspension in this car that really sets it apart from other AMG models.
The suspension on this car is tuned to such a high degree it is extremely stiff, suitable for track driving right out of the box. There is liberal use of carbon fiber throughout the car including the rear diffuser (under the rear bumper), the front air dam as well at the trunk lip spoiler. All of these fins and wings actually do something for this car, as opposed to so many wanna be’s that tack wings and special aero kits on their cars to change the look, these are integral pieces that keep this car safe and controllable while it approaches 200mph.
The CLK63 AMG Black Series has a 7 speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, similar to what you find in other AMG cars, but again, specially tuned for this particular application. This is a customer’s car, in for service, and, unfortunately, is not for sale. It will probably be traded in eventually, and when it is, you can be sure I will post it here on the blog.
