We’re all waiting for the first Mercedes-Benz SLS supercar to arrive at Feldmann Imports. In anticipation of that our Mercedes-Benz Shop Foreman, and avid Dave Knows Cars reader I’m told, Rick Engman was flown out to California for a technical traning course on this exciting new model this week.

This is a picture of the drivetrain on the test rack at AMG. Notice the transmission is way out back in the rear connected by a torque tube with a carbon fiber drives shaft inside. It is very similar to the C-class DTM race car. The automated manual transmission shifts faster than just about anything out there. I could go on forever (Oh yea it's got a optional 1000 watt Bang & Olufsen stereo!!)
Ok here are some numbers for the SLS AMG for the gear heads!! Top speed 197mph!! Elec. controlled. 0-60 3.6 sec. 479ft. lbs torque 563hp at 6800 rpm at only 3500 lbs. 96% aluminum!! If that's not bad ass enough you can get the carbon fiber brakes and a few other options that could add up to a reasonable $250,000.00 about 1/2 price compared to our SLR!! (take two they are small.) By the way it's the first vehicle designed from the ground up from AMG! PURE AWESOME!!!
Rick and the other technicians here at Feldmann Imports have such incredible technical knowledge of Mercedes-Benz cars. When I’m asking about a problem or a particluar car, it seems like I get half way through my explanation of what’s happening and they finish my sentence with the answer to the problem.
So much about modern cars is magic to me… it’s easy to know the options, prices, how models have changed from year to year and all the stuff on the topside of them, but underneath, I have to rely on a good team of technicians to lead me down the path of trouble free car ownership… thanks fellas!
